Statement on water damage at Cedar’s Edge in Essex

21-Dec-2011

On Tuesday afternoon a coupling crack in a fire suppression and alarm system at Cedar’s Edge, a new apartment building at 47 Susie Wilson Road in Essex, caused the building to flood. While the water damaged just twelve of the 30 apartments in the building, electrical systems were also damaged and the Essex Fire Department evacuated the building. Champlain Housing Trust staff, with assistance from the Red Cross, found temporary hotels for the 58 residents.

The building is now being inspected for habitability and we are doing everything possible to get the residents back into their homes. We understand how difficult this situation is for them during the holiday season. Another update will be forthcoming as soon as we have more information.
