New England Federal Credit Union Underwrites Campaign

New England Federal Credit Union (NEFCU) made a $5,000 donation to the Champlain Housing Trust this week to underwrite the organization’s annual Community Campaign. The Campaign kicks off later this week, asking people in Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle counties to join in the Housing Trust’s efforts to provide affordable housing, housing counseling and financial literacy education by making a contribution.

“New England Federal Credit Union has been so generous over the years,” said Brenda Torpy, CHT’s CEO. “It comes at a time that we are increasingly dependent on community support to fulfill our mission, and the credit union’s leadership is very much appreciated.”

“The Champlain Housing Trust’s work is so important,” said Greg Hahr, NEFCU’s Mortgage Manager.  “We are happy to contribute in this way and we hope others will support the Housing Trust, too.”

The annual campaign begins this week with a brochure mailed to 5,000 households in the region asking people to renew their support of CHT or consider becoming members. Beginning November 7, volunteers make follow up phone calls to let people know how important their support is. Last year, 75 volunteers made over 3,000 phone calls over the four day campaign.

“This is the biggest outreach effort we make each year, and the contributions we receive make such a difference in our annual budget,” explained Torpy.

The Champlain Housing Trust stewards 500 shared equity homeownership properties and over 1,500 affordable rental apartments throughout Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle counties. In addition to providing affordable housing, CHT offers homebuyer education, credit counseling, foreclosure intervention support, affordable loan products and develops new homes for rent or for sale. More information is available at www.champlainhousingtrust.org.

New England Federal Credit Union (NEFCU) is a member-owned financial institution serving the six counties of northwestern Vermont.
