Emily Higgins Named Employee of the Quarter

21-May-2012

Emily Higgins, CHT’s Director of HomeOwnership, was recognized as Employee of the Quarter on Friday for significant achievements on several new and expanding programs. As her colleagues wrote in their nomination, “Emily has consistently provided great leadership to the department, but in recent months, faced with several funding challenges and changes in the housing environment, Emily has performed at an even higher level.”

Among the achievements are:

  • Securing a two-year, $300,000 Social Innovation Fund grant to help build the stewardship capacity of Vermont’s community land trusts that total approximately 1,000 permanently affordable owner-occupied homes.
  • Working with the Legislature to develop and fund a new mobile home lending program to aid mobile home owners replace or repair their homes. Mobile home owners were twice as likely to have sustained damage from Tropical Storm Irene as other residents.
  • Helping launch Ready, Set, Rent!, an innovative approach to credit counseling that provides denied rental applicants assistance with an opportunity to secure housing while they work on repairing their credit. Thirty-two families have successfully worked through this new program.

“Emily has been nimble, adaptive and bold in expanding our line of business so that the HomeOwnership Center can continue to serve our customers with the best programs and resources available,” concluded the nomination.

Congratulations, Emily!
